During a church anniversary in the ministry I was raised as a kid;
Christ Apostolic Church Agbala Agbra Olorun Kiibati (now Power Pentecostal Church)
the presiding minister and founder Bishop Margaret Odeleke just before her message
asked if anyone had a song to praise the Lord for the anniversary. Up went the hand of a little
7 year old boy. I guess his boldness must have surprised the woman of God who called the
little boy from the congregation to sing his song. He confidently embraced the stage
and belted out the song the children choir had practiced for months and was to be rendered the next day (Whoops!).
He performed a solo rendition of the song, specially composed by his Sunday School teacher.
You can just imagine the look from the composer and other teachers. That Sunday school
teacher is now his Pastor and mentor. That little 7 year old boy is Bolaji Judah.
A few years later, something similar happened in my first week in secondary school, this time I wasn’t leaking anybody’s single or No 1. The music teacher came into the class and asked if anyone could sing and up goes the hand again. Before I knew what was happening I was in the school music lab accompanied by the music teacher on the piano. The six years in secondary school were filled with fond memories of singing in the school choir, solo pieces (classical and contemporary), musical competitions and welcoming important dignitaries to the school.
I was born into a lineage of Levites and from that very first time my hand went up I have been serving at the alter leading people all over the globe into the presence of God through praise and worship.
